- Through alumni small grants provide peer-training opportunities and establish communities of practice.
Program Activities
A phased implementation will be used to achieve ESN: TLT program goal and objectives.
Phase I: 100 Lead Trainers will be recruited and selected from a pool of ESN:STT core trainers, regional peer mentors, and alumni educators of U.S. government-sponsored projects to participate in a rigorous teacher leadership training program delivered by TESOL International Association and American Councils. The Lead Trainers will participate in:
- 40-hour long Teachers of English Leadership Institute (TESOL-TELI) and certificate program on the following three core competencies:

- Planning and Leading Teacher Development events.
- Leading and Sustaining Communities of Practice.
- 24-hour long American Councils Successful Project Management Institute on the following two core competencies:
- proposal writing,
- workshop design and implementation
Both institutes will have action planning and micro-teaching components to allow the participants to practice mock-delivery of the course in an encouraging space, simulating the cascading of the course to Regional Teacher Leaders (RTLs) in ESN:TLT Phase II. Upon finishing the two institutes, candidates will earn the TESOL TELI Certificate and will be inducted into Lead Trainers Corps.
Phase II: Lead Trainers will:
- Nominate 10-12 Regional Teacher Leaders from the pool of the ESN core trainers, regional peer mentors, and/or alumni of U.S. government-sponsored projects.
- Work in pairs to deliver selected Institute content to a group of 20 Regional Teacher Leaders for a total of 1000 Regional Teacher Leaders to improve RTLs Teacher Leadership skills.
- Lead Trainers and Regional Teacher Leaders will have opportunities to apply to small grants to:
- Deliver workshops to their peers
- Strengthen communities of practice among peer teachers.
- Participate in a professional teacher exchange in Uzbekistan whereby they can change their places with their colleagues or be embedded in a different school for several days for a total of three weeks to help with professional development of their peers.
