5 (Prepare)

1. Greeting and Warming up activity. /Checking up the Ss’ homework

Students in a circle by throwing a ball should tell one fact about Leyla Ali from the last lesson; Ex: Leila Ali is a famous boxer. She’s from the USA. She’s a daughter of famous boxer, Mukhammad Ali. She had 24 fights. She won all of them.

2. Ss listen to the song by Bojalar and guess the topic of the lesson. “O’zbegim polvonlari”. This song generates students’ interest in the topic Sport in Uzbekistan.

(Present)

1. Teacher asks Ss if they know the sportsmen in the pictures.

Ex: Do you know the person in the picture?

   -Yes, he’s Hasanboy Dustmatov

    What is he?

    -He’s a famous boxer. 

       2. A teacher presents some words for a new topic:

        Judoka- a sportsman who does judo

        Gymnast- a sportsman who does gymnastics

        Tennis player-a sportsman who plays tennis

        Canoeist- a sportsman who does canoe

        Kupkari-national Uzbek sport

7 (Apply)

1. A teacher asks Ss do “Read Aloud” in pairs and underline new words while reading.

Ex: S1-People in Uzbekistan like different types of sport both doing them and watch.

 S2- Moreover, sport is very popular in our country and there are a lot of Olympic champions who come from Uzbekistan. (A teacher can explain new words by giving definitions or using pictures; moreover=also)

2. After reading a class works on new words, a teacher helps with the meaning of new words. Ex: risky-dangerous, growing-increasing in number, becoming popular
3. Ss have a competition in the groups for completing the table using recently learnt materials on sport and sportsman. Students should give their own examples for the empty boxes. Handout 1

13 (Wrap up)

1. A teacher divides Ss into two groups: Sportsmen and Reporter groups. In their groups they should discuss what kind of questions they can ask and answer while interview. Handout 2 A, B

Ss work in pairs, a reporter will interview a sportsman. (Ss will be given 8 pictures of famous sportsmen of Uzbekistan, some information of sportsmen can be written on the back side of the pictures to help learners.)

(While interviewing they should consider the following areas: Name, Profession, Place of birth, Date of birth, Achievements. Reporter students should ask their two personal questions from students who are playing a role of famous Sportsman.

Ex: What’s your job?

       Where are you from?

       What’s your achievement?

       When did you start this sport?)

2.   A teacher checks the Ss how they learnt new words by using Exit ticket. Students say a new word or sentence with a new word they learned from the lesson.

A teacher thanks the students and assigns HW page 26, Ex3 a. Write and answer the questions about sport in Uzbekistan.
